What is Status Anxiety?

Today I learned the term “status anxiety”. This is referring to fear of how we are perceived by society with regards to materialistic status. I have not heard the term before, but I have had conversations with people discussing the pressures they feel from friends and family in relation to spending.

A variety of situations can create this type of anxiety such as back to school needs, holiday spending and family celebrations.  There are work and social events that may create financial pressure.

The first step I recommend regarding spending pressures is to create a personal plan specific to your values and goals. Determine what is important to you and your family, then decide to respond differently when faced with these pressures.

  • What do you value?
  • What goals do you want to achieve?
  • What is already in place in your life that you are grateful for?
  • What are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your goals?
  • What does success look like to you?

I encourage confidence in your decisions and your communication. Be committed to the changes you make and the goals you set. Prioritize what you value most.

If you would like to meet and talk about your financial plan, if you would like to consider actions steps you can take towards your goals, I would welcome the opportunity to meet. CLICK HERE to schedule your Personal Financial Coaching session.
