Hang Up on Unwanted Calls About Auto Loans
Getting unwanted calls about a supposed “loan application”?
According to the Federal Trade Commission, people are reporting getting multiple calls about loan applications that they supposedly submitted.
When people don’t pick up, a message is left stating the supposed loan is on hold and more information is needed. The call appears urgent, and the callers are persistent. People have reported getting bursts of calls from five to 20 calls a day! The calls were from different numbers, but all with the same story.
This is a tactic that some dishonest companies are using to offer loans.
The FTC Consumer Alert gives you these tips:
- Don’t press a number to “unsubscribe”. That just lets the company know your number is good. Instead hang up.
- Use call blocking to stop calls before they reach you.
- Don’t give information to businesses you don’t know, even if they seem to know you.
- Register your cell and home phone for free at the National Do Not Call Registry
