Looking for something nearby to enjoy for a family day trip? Check out our Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum or consider a day trip to Bisbee and check out the Copper Queen Library. Both were honored on May 21st by the Institute of Museum and Library Services with the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries that demonstrate excellence in service to their communities!
Over the past 30 years the award has celebrated institutions that are making a difference for individuals, families, and communities.
Many of us have visited the Desert Museum, and I can attest to how spectacular this local attraction is for both locals and visitors.
Now after reading about the Copper Queen Library, I would like to take a day trip to Bisbee and stop in and visit their library. Apparently in 1880, after members of the Copper Queen Mining Company arrived in town to find the swinging corpse of a fellow hanged the night before, they were so shocked they decided immediately that the town needed more civilized diversions! Their website says the first Copper Queen Library was established in 1882 with 400 volumes in the east end of the Copper Queen Mercantile Store.
